I'm reminded of one day two years ago when my laptop refused to be "turned on" when I touched the right button. There were no whirrings, no lights, no sign of life. I sat there speechless, and there were tears. It was an ugly affair, but mine was resurrected with the help of skillful surgeons. I hate to think that I see my laptop as a pet or companion, but evidence seems to point in the other direction.
