Iceland 2025 — Day Five

Another brilliant day—sunny, warm, and again, little wind! I actually managed to get up before 10:00. Outside Vesturbæjarlaug I took a close-up of the fish embrace statue I posted about yesterday:

I’d like to know the story behind it. The sun was so intense I was virtually blinded when crossing Hringbraut on the way back from the pool.

I spotted this parking meter just outside Hólavallagarður cemetery, looking like it was an escaped tombstone:

The rest of the week is forecast to be fair and mild too. I got some more groceries this afternoon; I was out of food and coffee! I really should dine out for at least one fancy meal but it will be difficult to find the time after Wednesday when Airwaves begins. I wonder if there is an opening at Óx  on Tuesday?

I received a very strange eMail today from Icelandair with an odd offer:

What the flugfélög?

They want me to shorten my trip by a day or two for a measly $100 credit? Cutting short a trip I had paid for months ago, a trip that I had planned for very specific dates and had already paid for concert tickets and lodging? Leaving a day early would mean forfeiting $250, leaving two days early would mean losing over $500. Is there a problem with my regular return flight? Did they overbook passengers returning from Iceland Airwaves? Will air traffic controllers completely stop working in the U.S. that day? Time will tell. For dinner I had mixed veg, tortellini con prosciutto di parma, maribo cheese, Belgian Chocolate (cheaper than at home!) and a fine local beverage:

It would have cost at least $50 in a restaurant here (please don’t judge me by the Kókó Mjólk).

After dinner I went back to the pool, just as it was getting dark:
