One Two Four

I don’t remember where I came across it.

A simple formula, no thinking about it.

No psychological explanations, no exceptions.

Just do it.

When ever you drink, use this plan:

One drink per hour, Max.

Two drinks per day. Max.

Four drinks per week. Max.

If you can’t do that, then you have a drinking problem.

But you know... partying on saturday night with just two bears... that's no fun. Then you might just as well skip it

It isn't really a rule or command - it just a way of avoiding alcohol related problems - more than two drinks? You're looking at .08 - DUI in most states. Or look at the flip (flippist) side of it - if you don't exceed it and you do have alcohol related behavior problems, yes then you are better off not drinking. It is just an idea. If you have ever found yourself in trouble because of drinking, I'm sure it was when you exceeded the plan. An interesting exercise would be to come up with another plan (ie: two - four - eight) and see what the possible consequences would be. The big problem with exceeding two drinks per night is that you weaken your ability to stop.
